Nurse/Sonographer:

The Nurse/Sonographer volunteer provides support and care to the Buena Vista Pregnancy Center and maintains professional standards of care. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director, the Nurse/Sonographer is responsible for a variety of clinical services, nursing interventions, and medical follow-up. The Nurse/Sonographer assists in providing support, mentoring, and medical back-up to non-medical staff and volunteers.

Qualifications:

• Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Is dependable, stable, and capable of following through on commitments.

• Has a sincere desire to reach out to abortion-vulnerable and abortion-minded women.

• Maintains a consistent life affirming philosophy and would never refer or advise a
   women to have an abortion.

• Respects confidentiality.

• Holds current Registered Nurse's License in good standing with the State Medical Board.

• Is CPR certified.

• Has taken initial BVPC Client Advocate Counselor training classes.

• Is available to take a 2-week training course on sonography.

• Is flexible with volunteer time at the Center.

Duties and Responsibilities as a Nurse/Sonographer:

• Performs client's physical assessment and history prior to performing an
   ultrasound procedure.

• Performs First and Second Trimester ultrasounds (6-20 weeks gestational age)
   as needed for:

    • Scheduled ultrasound appointments

    • Onsite, same-day ultrasounds

• Completes Exit Interview with client after ultrasound procedure which includes medical    information referrals.

• Assists client in making medical referrals to an OB clinic when an abortion-minded client's    gestational age is greater than 12 weeks or when viability of a pregnancy is questionable.

• Follow-up by phone call with above referred client.

• Cleans and disinfects ultrasound equipment.

 • Compiles ultrasound charts after ultrasound procedures.

 • Ensures Doctor's signature on ultrasound reports.

 • Meets with the Nurse Manager when necessary.
